A New Chapter for Insight: Same Mission, Broader Vision

Dear Readers,

We have some exciting news to share with you. Beginning this week, Insight Into Diversity magazine will be changing its name to Insight Into Academia magazine.

This is solely a name evolution—it is not a mission change. Our commitment to inclusive excellence and belonging remains steadfast. These values are deeply embedded in both our publication and our organization, and we will continue to amplify the voices and stories that matter most.

Fifty years ago, this publication launched as the Affirmative Action Register. In 2009, we retitled as Insight Into Diversity to better reflect the powerful and transformative work being done across higher education. Now, like many of you who have recently updated your title or office name—but continue to do the same critically important work you have always done—we, too, are taking this step forward. Our dedication to showcasing your efforts in fostering access, ensuring success, and building welcoming campuses for your students, employees, and communities is as strong as ever. Under this new name, however, we will be able to explore higher education even more profoundly and expand the breadth of our content.

Additionally, we are modifying the name of the HEED Award. The Insight Into Diversity Higher Education Excellence in Diversity Award will become the Insight Into Academia Higher Education Excellence and Distinction Award—retaining the much-loved HEED acronym. We believe this change creates an opportunity for all institutions—even those in states with anti-DEI legislation—to once again share their best practices in recruitment, retention, leadership, and innovation with our readers.

We are profoundly thankful for your support of Insight Into Diversity over the years. We look forward to embarking on this exciting new chapter as Insight Into Academia and continuing this journey with you.

Best,

Holly Mendelson and Lenore Pearlstein
