Roosevelt University has announced the Roosevelt Pledge, a new initiative aimed at increasing access to higher education for Illinois students from low-income households. Beginning in Spring 2025, students with an annual family income of $50,000 or less will be eligible to attend Roosevelt tuition-free.
The program provides a financial aid package that fully covers tuition through scholarships and grants, including federal, state, and private funding. Roosevelt will cover any remaining tuition costs to ensure full coverage. To remain eligible, students must be enrolled full-time in a bachelor’s degree program, meet academic progress requirements, and reapply for aid each year.
“I’m beyond thrilled that the Roosevelt Pledge will create new opportunities for students across Illinois to experience a college education,” President Ali Malekzadeh said in a press release.. “We at Roosevelt believe that income should not be a barrier to earning a degree, and I’m pleased that the Pledge has the potential to allow more students to attend our institution regardless of their financial background”
The Roosevelt Pledge is renewable for up to four years for students who maintain eligibility. It does not cover additional costs such as fees, books, housing, or study-abroad programs, though students may apply for loans or work-study opportunities to assist with those expenses.
The initiative is part of Roosevelt’s broader efforts to promote educational access and equity. Other recent programs include reduced tuition for undergraduates, expanded support for veterans, and resources for Hispanic students.
